UPDATE One arrested after body, suspicious package found in Oshawa home

Durham Regional Police are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a female was found inside a home in Oshawa Friday night.

Const. George Tudos says officers were called the a home on McMillan Drive, in the Bond and Centre streets area around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Officers arrived to find the body of a female in the basement of the house.  Const. Tudos says they do not have an age or identity for the victim yet.

A "suspicious package" was also found in the home and the explosive disposal unit was called into the investigate.

Const. Tudos told reporters "They used a robot to detonate it and render it safe and they’ll have to examine it now further to see exactly what it was."

He added that a sweep of the area where the body was found still has to be done to make sure " there is no other objects or anything else that would be a safety concern for our investigators."

Neighbouring homes have been evacuated as a precaution.

45-year-old Adam Jeffrey Strong has been arrested and charged with improper/ indecent interference with a dead body.
