A powerful crash in Mississauga has claimed the lives of three people including two boys aged 5 and 13.
The boys were in a Mercedes Benz driving along Winston Churchill Blvd near the QEW at about 11 p.m. Sunday when their car was hit hard by a Mazda 6. Police say the male driver of the Mazda lost control of his car and crossed the road's centre line before impact.
Peel Regional Police are looking into whether high speed on the busy stretch of road in front of an entertainment complex that includes restaurants, a movie theatre and an indoor skydiving facility may have played a role in the crash.
The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene. The boys riding in the Mercedes were pronounced dead in hospital.
Three other people in the Mercedes survived the crash, including a seven-year-old girl. She's in hospital in stable condition. A woman in the car was fighting for her life in hospital on Monday morning while the man at the wheel of the Mercedes had been discharged after treatment of minor injuries.
Police have not been able to say if the occupants of the Mercedes are members of the same family or where they might have been going.
The Peel District School Board has identified the 13-year-old boy as grade 7 student Keziah Edwards-Young from Erin Mills Middle School.
"Keziah was a well-liked student - a valuable member of our community," principal Monika Hurford writes in a statement. "We will miss him."
