One person was killed after a single car accident in Georgetown overnight. The car veered off the road striking multiple light standards before it crashed into a tree.
Halton Region Police confirm that an 18 year old was the victim after the Toyota sports coupe he was riding in, travelling eastbound, left the roadway on Maple Avenue near Main Street South at around 1 a.m.
According to Halton Regional Police Det. Const. Chris Hefferman, the car starting losing control as it come downhill on the road.
"It climbed the curb, went onto the sidewalk, hit a retaining wall became airborne for a little bit, took out two light standards and then came to rest against a tree."
The victim was in the back seat of the car and died from his injuries en route to hospital.
The driver and passenger,also both 18, suffered minor injuries. They were treated and released. All three teenangers are from Mississauga.
Hefferman adds police haven't ruled out any possible causes of the accident.
"There's no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved for imparement on the driver. We're definitely looking at speed as a contributing factor to the collision."
