It could be a tricky evening commute Thursday if you're driving through the GTA.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, saying there's the potential for patchy freezing rain in areas that include:
It could also come down as ice pellets, but the weather agency says either way, the precipitation shouldn't last long.
However, areas outside of the GTA to the north and west - including cottage country - are now under a freezing rain warning.
It's expected to begin at or after 6 p.m. in the following areas:
Several areas to the north, northwest and east are also under the warning, so Environment Canada is advising motorists to be cautious if they plan to travel long distances on Thursday evening.
The freezing rain should move out of the region by midnight when the temperature begins to warm up, although areas of Eastern Ontario could experience longer periods of freezing rain.
Environment Canada is predicting a significant warm up overnight, with morning highs in Toronto and the GTA sitting at 8 C and an afternoon high of 10 C.
The temperature will slide once again by the overnight hours, with a daytime high of -4 C expected on Saturday.
The weather agency tells NEWSTALK1010 that while 10 C sounds rather warm, it's not all that unusual for this time of year as temperatures tend to yo-yo at the beginning of winter.
