Police are still searching for a man known to be violent and dangerous who escaped custody at Toronto General Hospital.
39-year-old Justin Yates was taken to hospital for an “undisclosed reason,” police said.
While he was there Thursday afternoon, he managed to evade his guards.
Investigators tell CTV News the suspect was somehow able to break out of his leg irons and hail a taxi.
A cab driver confirmed that Yates was dropped off at Yonge and Dundas streets, in the heart of Toronto’s downtown.
Police said Yates may not be in the city anymore.
More than a week ago, Toronto police were seeking the public’s help in finding Yates in connection with a break-and-enter investigation.
He is accused of stealing property worth more than $100,000.
Police were able to track down Yates and placed him in custody on Wednesday.
Yates is described as 5'9", 200 lbs, with a beard and moustache and numerous tattoos.
He was wearing black track pants and a black shirt.
Police are asking anyone who sees Yates not to approach him.
Instead, call 911.
