Toronto Police continue to look for three suspects wanted in a drive-by shooting that ended in Greektown Friday night, that sent a man to hospital with a gunshot wound.
Police say the first calls from witnesses started coming in from the area of Danforth and Chester Avenue around 10pm, with reports of a collision.
Two vehicles were involved, with the occupants of one vehicle firing shots at another vehicle. Police say the lone occupant of that second vehicle suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
"One male was located with injuries to the upper body from a gunshot wound. He's believed to be in his 30's, he was transported to hospital, conscious and breathing."
A short time later, police received another call near Castle Frank subway station.
"Further investigation has since revealed that this whole incident started around the area of Castle Frank and Bloor, where there was a shooting. Shell casings were found in that area," says Constable Allyson Douglas-Cook.
"Both vehicles continued eastbound and they ended in a collision at Chester and Danforth."
A third unoccupied parked vehicle was struck during the incident.
And it turns out, reports that a gun was found at the scene of the crime, was incorrect.
Newstalk1010 learned from Toronto Police this morning that the initial erroneous tweet was quickly corrected last night.
"We want to get the information out for public safety reasons and just so the public has the information and sometimes the initial reports aren't completely accurate. There was a report that there was a firearm found in one of the vehicles, but we have since learned that that was not the case," said Constable Allyson Douglas-Cook this morning.
Constable Douglas-Cook tells Newstalk1010 that "one [vehicle] was driven by the victim - as far as we know, he was the only occupant of that vehicle. The second involved vehicle, there were apparently three male suspects."
Now while the shooting happened near Bloor and Castle Frank, but ended blocks away in Greektown, that's no comfort for area residents and businesses who lived through last summer's deadly shooting that left two dead and 13 injured.
"Oh my God, here we go again," this business owner told our media partner CTV News Toronto, "We just already went through a big thing like this, even more extreme actually last year. It really bothered me. This is a community. This is a neighbourhood. This is the Danforth. Things are not supposed to happened in family-knit communities."
Police are looking for the three suspects who fled the scene on foot.
A suspect description has not yet been released.
Witnesses and anyone with dashcam video is asked to call police.
