Pride Toronto has voted to limit the role of police in its future parades.
An annual general meeting was held Tuesday night to vote in five new board members, but demands by Black Lives Matter Toronto were pushed to the top of the agenda.
Last year's parade was put on hold for half an hour because of a sit-in by the group.
All of the groups demands, including to have police floats and booths removed from future events, were passed.
However, one outgoing Pride board member told our sister station CTV news, it's not an outright ban on police participation.
Toronto Police Association president Mike McCormack tells NEWSTALK 1010 he is disappointed that Pride organizers allowed the meeting to be hijacked.
He says police have spent years trying to break down barriers with the LGBTQ community, and this vote does the opposite.
Mayor John Tory has released a statement saying he is hopeful that "people of goodwill can find a way to resolve this issue."
