Crews have a five-alarm fire under control that broke out at Topper Linen Supply Limited warehouse in the Junction.
Firefighters were called to the two-storey building on Mulock Avenue near Keele and Dundas streets just after 5 a.m. Saturday when smoke was seen coming from the roof.
Platoon Chief Jim Green tells CP24 by the time they got there, it was fully engulfed.
He says the fire started in the basement and they are unable to gain access because stairs that lead to the basement have been burned out.
A number of homes on Mulock Avenue and Keele Street had been evacuated as a precaution, but residents have been allowed back home.
Fire officials made the decision to evcuate nearby homes on Mulock Avenue and Keele Street because of concerns that some chemicals may be stored inside the burning building.
Fire Chief Matthew Pegg tells CP 24 that the evacuation was “strictly precautionary” while firefighters got everything under control.
There are no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
