A tractor trailer rollover on Highway 401 near Cambridge overnight forced the closure of the highway in both directions Sunday morning.
Two of the three westbound lanes were re-opened at noon, but the eastbound lanes were expected to remain closed throughout the afternoon.
The rig was hauling a double tanker of jet fuel, with 50 thousand litres aboard, that spilled onto the highway.
OPP reported only minor injuries in the accident that occurred just before 2 am this morning.
Const. Robert Visconti told NEWSTALK 1010 Sunday morning safety is the key reason for the lenghty closure, which stretches from Highway 6 South through Townline Road.
" We have more of an issue with the amount of fuel and it catching on fire. That's the reason why we have the closures so far apart from the acutal accident scene."
Visconti adds the clean up is expected to take several hours.
