Unifor has served strike notice to First Student. School bus drivers in Durham region and east Toronto could go on strike as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a deal is not reached, affecting roughly 10,000 students.
Durham Student Transportation Services says a strike would mean no bus service on routes covered by First Student Ajax and First Student Brooklin. It would also affect 28 schools in Toronto's east end.
The key issues, according to a UNIFOR spokesperson, are low wages and unpaid work time.
Unifor says the two sides are still talking and they're hopeful a deal can be reached before the deadline.
