The pilot of a small plane that crashed after takeoff from Buttonville airport Thursday evening was killed.
Reports indicate the pilot declared a MAYDAY shortly after take off before crashing.
Insp. Lesley Weller of York Regional Police confirmed to NEWSTALK1010 the unidentified pilot was the lone occupant of the plane that went down just before 8 p.m..
"The pilot is deceased however has not been identified. Nothing appears suspicious at this time. The Toronto safety board will be investigating the crash."
CTV reports the man killed was a student pilot and a good one according to those who knew him.
What happened leading up to the deadly crash is unclear.
The Transportation Safety Board is investigating to try and determine what went wrong.
