It could be a long and slow drive home this afternoon.
Environment Canada has issued a winter travel advisory for the GTA, including Toronto.
The agency says an intense band of snow is moving through the area this afternoon, with heavy and blowing snow likely to produce whiteout conditions on the roads.
Snow could quickly accumulate on the roads, with 5 to 10cm likely. Some areas could get up to 15cm.
The band of snow is expected to move out of the GTA this evening.
Another signficant snowfall, meanwhile, is expected Friday night into Saturday.
The weather agency says a Colorado low could bring 15 to 20cm of snow north of a line from Waterloo to Ottawa.
In spots closer to lakes Erie and Ontario, the accumulation could be closer to 5 to 15cm because the snow might change to rain for a few hours as the temperature rises on Saturday.
CANCELLATION NOTICES TRICKLE IN
The Greater Toronto Hockey League and the North York Hockey League have postponed Thursday night's games.
Anyone with evening classes or clubs should call ahead to see if they're still on.
While there is a dumping of snow expected for Friday night and into Saturday morning, the Toronto District and Catholic District School Boards will not make a decision tonight on whether to cancel buses or close schools tomorrow.
Officials say that's mainly because the snow is expected to at Thursday evening and not pick up again until late Friday night.
