Winter weather is on the way to much of southern Ontario including Toronto and the GTA starting Sunday night.
According to Environment Canada there is the potential for some brief heavy snow along with a cold front late Sunday and more widespread snowfall likely Monday and Monday night.
The agency says "An Artic cold front starts to cross Southern Ontario late Sunday and will likely be accompanied by a brief burst of heavier snow with reduced visibilities affecting travel. A coating of a couple of centimetres in a short timeframe is possible in some areas."
And on Monday "an approaching Alberta Clipper is expected to deliver the first widespread snowfall to virtually all of Southern Ontario. General snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 centimetres appear likely at this early juncture."
Environment Canada Meteorologist Rob Kuhn says we could expect around 2 cms Sunday everning with the possibility of "brief bursts" of snow that could cause diminshed visibility on the roads.
After that it will be quiet overnight Sunday, then "we're keeping an eye on an Alberta Clipper which is forecast to bring a general area of accumulating snow across the Toronto area. It's expected to arrive early Monday afternoon and continue into Monday night."
5 to 10 centimetres is expected across the city.
Kuhn says most of the system should be to the east of us by Tuesday.
The city of Toronto ready for the weather tweeting "In advance of snow overnight and on Monday, salt brine will be applied to hills and bridges this evening."
