Yonge-Bloor station was evacuated Saturday afternoon after a report of a suspicious package that was left on a subway platform.
Toronto Police Const Allyson Douglas-Cook confirmed to Newstalk 1010 they received a call from TTC personel just before 4 o'clock about the package.
" We received reports that someone had been seen leaving a package on the southbound platform at the Yonge and Bloor subway station. At that point it was determined that the best course of action would be to evacuate the station to ensure everyone's safety."
Police units as well as the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives unit (CBRNE) were called in along with Toronto Fire.
Many commuters either working or headed dowtown for the afternoon, were forced outside to waiting shuttle buses, but the lineups were long to board.
One person told CTV News trying to get home without the subway was going to be a challenge.
" We don't know how to get home now. This is a really long line and we really want to go home at this time . I came from work."
Just before 7 p.m. Saturday evening, Police confirmed via twitter they had detonated the package and the all clear was given.
Subway service was expected to resume.
Update: CBRNE has advised that the package has been rendered safe. Subway will be reopened for re-entry shortly. #GO578584^adc
