The driver of an SUV has been charged by police, after allegedly causing a school bus to rollover in downtown Toronto.
Police say the vehicle slammed into the side of a small bus near Richmond and Parliament Sts just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The impact caused the bus to tip onto its side.
There were five children onboard, on their way to the Market Lane Junior and Senior Public School. They were taken to hospital as a precaution, but their injuries appeared to be minor.
Witnesses say the students were all wearing seatbelts, and when passersby opened the rear door to get them out, they were hanging from their belts, in shock and crying.
Police say there is a red light camera at the intersection, which they were able to use in their investigation. They allege that the driver of the SUV ran a red light before it collided with the bus, which was going through a green light.
The woman behind the wheel of the SUV has been charged with careless driving.
