School buses carrying some 18,500 students in Toronto and across York Region will roll as usual Thursday after drivers tentatively agreed to a new contract
A team from Unifor and First Student negotiated beyond a midnight deadline for a strike or lockout. Just before 6 a.m. we learned of the deal and that drivers would be on the job for morning run and until the agreement is ratified.
That vote is expected to take place within the next week.
Deb Montgomery, president of Unifor Local 4268 calls the three year agreement "fair" and one she believes drivers will be pleased with.
The union had flagged compensation and working conditions as key issues in negotiations.
