It's another step forward for Mayor John Tory's Smart Track public transit plan.
City Councillors voted 35 -7 to work with Metrolinx to finish up the planning work for six Smart Track light rail stations and two new GO train stations.
The proposed plan would see the city being saddled with a bill of $3.3 billion to build the Smart Track stations and the Eglinton West LRT. The province would be responsible for $3.7 billion in infrastructure that supports Smart Track. Most of that money will be used to electrify the GO transit rail.
Mayor John Tory has long said property taxes would not rise because of his public transit dream, and he stands by that. But he's never ruled out creating new revenue tools to pay for the work.
Council also approved a motion to ask Mississauga and the airports authority to help pay for some of the project.
The province had given City Council until November 30th to finalize a cost structure.
