Two people are facing charges after an explosion at an apartment building in Parkdale.
Police say the blast blew out the windows of a 19th floor unit at 105 West Lodge Avenue Saturday afternoon.
Toronto Fire Services Platoon Chief Chris Bertram told CP24 crews arrived to see pieces of glass and window frames from the blown-out unit scattered on the ground in front of the building.
“It was an explosion and as a result of the conditions here, we’ve requested the attendance of the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office as well as inspectors from the Toronto Fire Services Fire Prevention Division,” Bertram said.
The 19th floor had to be evacuated as a precaution because of possible fumes from the explosion.
A 42-year-old man sustained burns to his face and hands and a 53-year-old woman sustained less serious injuries, firefighters said.
They have been charged with possession of a Schedule II substance, arson by negligence and common nuisance.
Toronto fire says the cause of the blast is under investigation, but it appears to have been the result of a drug lab.
