Two people are dead after police say an SUV went airborne and plowed into a pole on eastbound Highway 401 in Toronto.
Ontario Provincial Police say it happened around 4 a.m. Wednesday after the vehicle hit a concrete barrier near Warden Avenue.
Jaw-dropping photos from the scene show the vehicle almost completely wrapped around a post supporting a highway sign and nearly sliced in half.

OPP Const. Prash Niranjan says officers are working to identify the deceased but have not yet been able to get into the vehicle.
Investigators are looking into whether speed, road conditions or weather played a role in the crash.
The crash closed express and collector lanes of the 401 for hours. All lanes except the left lane in the collectors have since been re-opened.
