Toronto Police have released the identity of a man fatally stabbed downtown Toronto early Saturday morning.
The male victim, identified as 52-year-old James Andrew Smith of Toronto, suffered injuries to his upper body after being stabbed in the area of Yonge and Charles streets early Saturday morning.
Spokesperson Katrina Arrogante confirmed to NEWSTALK 1010 Saturday morning that the victim succumb to his injuries in hospital.
"The male was suffering from a stab wound to the upper body and was found to be without any vital signs at that point. He was transported to the hospital and he was later pronounced deceased."

Through investigation it was determined that the deceased had been standing by the main door of 730 Yonge Street, when he was attacked by a male suspect who fled the scene on foot. It's unclear whether or not the suspect and the deceased knew each other.
Investigators would like to speak with anyone who had contact with James Smith in the hours leading up to his death.
