Toronto Police say they have one person under arrest after a 47-year-old man was found dead in Leslieville early Saturday morning.
Gary Long of Corporate communications, confirmed to NEWSTALK1010 the victim was located outside near 356 Eastern Avenue just east of Broadview, just after 1 a.m. He was found face down with injuries to his chest.
"The male was transported to St. Mike's hospital via emergency run with life-threatening injuries," Long said. "A short time later the male was pronounced at the hospital."
The victim has since been identified as Kerry Romain, from the city of Toronto. It's believed he lived in the Leslieville area.
While the circumstances around the incident remain under investigation, detective Leslie Dunkley is calling the case an "unprovoked attack of an innocent man" - even though he believes the two were acquainted with one another and the victim was targeted.
The man under arrest is facing second-degree murder charges. He is not being identified at this time. Until then, the investigation is ongoing.
"We've done an extensive canvas of the area, and we have had very good cooperation from businesses and witnesses," Det. Leslie Dunkley said in a news conference Sunday afternoon. "We have obtained some video surveillance that allows us to isolate what happened."
Anyone else who has information or witnessed what happened is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
This is Toronto's 56th homicide of 2018.
