Toronto police say they narrowly avoided issuing an Amber Alert on Thursday morning after a man allegedly forced a woman and her toddler into a car and drove off.
Police say the suspect was seen yelling at the woman in the city's east end at around 7:30 a.m. when bystanders saw him forcing the two into his sedan.
Investigators say they were in the process of drafting an Amber Alert when their car was found west of the city by Peel Regional Police.
Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu says all three were found safe, but the mother and her 18-month-old child will undergo a medical examination.
She says the man and woman involved in the incident were known to each other.
Police say they're still investigating the incident and haven't decided what charges will be laid.
