A Grade 12 student in Mississauga hasn't had a great start to the school year.
Omar Salman wants to study architectural engineering at the University of Waterloo. He needs physics and calculus for that but the teen says he can't get into either course at Cawthra Park Secondary.
Salman tells Moore in the Morning he's been put on a wait list.
He says he made sure to get his course choices in on time last spring after learning the province was increasing class sizes and decreasing the number of teachers.
Still, Salman says he's been forced to take his physics class online.
"I've been told that it's going to be a lot more difficult to get a high grade on online physics and to get a good chance of being accepted I have to have an average of at least 90 percent," he says.
When he has questions about his online coursework, Salman says he sometimes has to wait until the next day for an answer from a teacher.
If he doesn't get into calculus, he's been told he'll have to take the class online next semester or go to night school.
Cawthra Park lost three teachers and 18 classes after Ford government's education changes.
