Drivers planning on using roads and highways across the GTA are being advised to adjust their travel plans if at all possible.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Toronto and the surrounding areas.
It says a Texan low is gathering strength, and expected to bring anywhere from 15-to-20 centimetres of snow to the city.
The snow will become heavy at times, enhanced by snow bands off of Lake Ontario.
It is expected to limit visibility on the roads leading to challenging travel conditions.
"We could see some pretty decent snowfall rates coming down to a couple or three cms per hour. So we're anticipating 15 maybe 20 cms of snow by the time it wraps up around 3 or 4 (Christmas) morning," Environment Canada's Arnold Ashtold told NEWSTALK 1010.
Cold brisk winds on Christmas Day will likely create some local blowing snow as well. The cool air, according to Ashton, is here to stay through the holidays.
"We're looking at continued below normal conditions right through the end of the year. Chilly, snowy and very winter like."
