The search for suspects continues after a terrifying shooting inside an apartment building.
It happened just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, near Black Creek and Trethewey, as families inside might have been eating dinner or getting young children ready for bed.
Five teenagers were hurt when a group opened fire in the hallway and NEWSTALK 1010 has learned that this is at least the second shooting inside this same building in about six months.
Two people were shot there back in April.
In this latest case, Police Chief Mark Saunders says three suspects walked into the building through a side door. Two of them opened fire on people standing in the hallway.
Saunders says multiple shots were fired. "I'll say over 20 and I think that would be a fair guesstimate. I'm probably...understating the numbers."
The victims are all young, between 16 and 18-years-old. Paramedics said Wednesday night that their injuries were serious to life-threatening.
Police told NEWSTALK 1010 Thursday morning, that all of them are expected to live.
Police do not think this one will be tough to solve. They've said there's very clear video.
This, as you know, has been a horrible year for gun violence in the city. Saunders says more than 230 people have been hit by bullets.
"I can't think of a year where we've reached 200," Saunders told CP24 Wednesday night. "It's very concerning."
Back in August, police launched a plan to try to stem the violence, by putting more officers in at risk-communities at night.
"Project Community Space" was set to wrap up Thursday.
