ELROSE, Sask. - The mayor of a small town in southwestern Saskatchewan is calling a car crash that killed six people - including three children - a tragedy.
The RCMP continues to investigate the Friday afternoon collision, in which two SUVs crashed head-on just north of Elrose, Sask.
Mayor Dennis Dixon says a crash of this magnitude is tragic no matter where it happens, and Elrose is no exception.
Investigators say two adults and three children were found dead in one of the vehicles, and the woman driving the other SUV was also killed in the crash.
Officials have now identified the victims as 26-year-old Troy Gasper - a former Humboldt Broncos player, his 28-year-old wife Carissa Gasper and their three children.
The woman in the second vehicle was 71 years old. Her identity has not been confirmed.
The collision comes less than three months after the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in the northern part of the province that left 16 dead.
