The UP Express has only been running for about four years but already, a report suggests Metrolinx is considering major changes.
The Toronto Star reports that an unpublished Metrolinx document shows plans to move the UP Express platform at Union Station, which would include a new pedestrian bridge.
The estimated cost: $80 million.
They're also said to be considering scrapping the existing trains and replacing them with the same electric trains they plan to use for GO Transit.
None of the plans have been finalized yet and Metrolinx says changes are years away. The agency says UP has seen 69 percent growth since it opened and will be over capacity by 2028.
The head of Metrolinx tells the Star they are planning for more frequent service and faster trips.
The NDP's transportation critic accused the former Liberal government of rushing the project to get the trains moving in time for the Pan Am Games.
The UP Express opened in June of 2015. It cost $456 million.
