A mother in Vaughan wants an apology from the York Region District School Board.
She says her 8-year-old daughter came home crying after doing yoga in school.
She tells the Toronto Star that last year, her son was given a religious exemption by the principal but she never filled out an official form, which she later learned was board policy.
Two months later she says her daughter did Yoga as part of a wellness day activity, not realizing what it was until afterward.
The family is Roman Catholic and they don't do Yoga because it is rooted in Hinduism.
She feels like her concerns weren't taken seriously by the school or the board.
The Archdiocese of Toronto tells the Star that the physical activity part of Yoga is okay in the Catholic faith but the spiritual part is a concern.
