Despite the upcoming forecast showing warmer, dryer conditions for the GTA, Ward's Island residents remain concerned about flooding and are taking measures to prevent their homes from being damaged.
Volunteers have organized a "sandbagging party" starting at 10 a.m. Saturday to make sure the most vulnerable properties get the protection they need.
The Toronto Islands were closed for the entire spring and much of the summer season in 2017 when record-high water levels in Lake Ontario led to severe flooding.
While the city has taken steps to ensure the events do not repeat, the water levels are now close to what they were two years ago.
Everyone is invited to come out to the Ward's Island Saturday morning and help with sandbagging efforts.
