Last weekend the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario partnered with the City of Toronto and Toronto Police increasing inspections of bars and restaurants.
Of the 7,000 places to dine and drink in Toronto, inspectors visited 26 liquor-licensed establishments in the city. Of those, a total of ten were found in violation of the province's Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. Nine warnings were issued and one charge was laid.
Inspectors found that all 10 weren't following proper distancing rules on outdoor patios.
The city won't name the establishment that was ticketed because a conviction is needed, first.
The potential fines under the EMCPA for any violation of the orders and regulations for restaurants and bar operators are:
- In the case of an individual, a fine of up to $100,000 and imprisonment of up to one year;
- In the case of a director of a corporation, a fine of up to $500,000 and imprisonment of up to one year; and
- In the case of a corporation, a fine of up to $10,000,000.
