Better known for assists on the ice, Washington Capitals player Alex Ovechkin assisted with some kindness on the streets of Edmonton Friday. He bought winter clothes for a homeless man he saw outside without a shirt.
The man was outside the Sequel Cafe in downtown Edmonton and staff at the restaurant saw the Russian forward give the clothes to the man and tweeted about his good deed.
We saw The Alex Ovechkin take off his winter jacket and hat and give it to a homeless man he passed on the street. Wow! #gooddeeds

Ovechkin spoke to reporters the next day ahead of the Capitals game against the Oilers, but after admitting to the act of kindness tried to steer the converstation back to hockey, but to no luck as reporters continued to ask him about it.
"Saw the guy, no shirt, and (I) went to the store and bought him a sweater, coat and hat," Ovechkin said. He said the man did not recognize him and was shocked by the gift.
CTV News Edmonton reports the temperature fell to a low of minus 1 degree Celsius Friday.
Ovechkin told reporters, "If you see a guy almost naked out there in that kind of temperature, I think every human can do something – a coat or a shirt or whatever."
And it was a good night on the ice for the superstar Saturday, Ovechkin recorded three assists in the Capitals’ 5-2 victory over the Oilers.
