Thirty-four years after 9-year-old Sharin Morningstar Keenan was abducted and killed, Toronto police are renewing their appeal for information on her alleged killer's whereabouts.
Dennis Melvin Howe has been wanted for first-degree murder since 1983.
“Dead or alive, we're looking for Dennis Melvin Howe. We have his DNA. Someone knows where he is. We want to hear from you,” Det Sgt Stacy Gallant says in a video appeal.
Sharis was last seen playing in Jean Sibelius Square on Brunswick Ave on a January afternoon.
A witness reported seeing her speaking to a man.
Her parents called police when she failed to return home.
Just over a week later, officers doing a door-to-door search found her body in a fridge inside a rooming house on the same street where she was last seen. Police say she had been sexually assaulted and strangled.
Howe was described at the time as about 5'9", brown eyes, a half-inch scar under the left side of his chin, and a crooked pinkie or little finger. He had a scar on his right thumb and he was left-handed. He also had a small birthmark on the right side of his chest and he had very bad teeth.
Police are appealing to his family, his nieces and nephews and a possible child he had, to contact investigators with any information they might have.
