It was a wild run, that ended with a man in handcuffs.
Durham Regional Police say it was the "eye in the sky" the Air1 chopper, that helped end a high speed police chase in the early morning hours of January 27th.
Cops say it started with a call from a woman who claimed a man was following her car, driving erratically and trying to ram her vehcile. When officers showed up the man took off.
And boy, did he ever.
When the chase started reaching speeds doubling the speed limit on the eastbound 401 towards Peterborough, cops backed off and left it up to the police helicopter to continue the chase from a safe distance.
Police followed the vehicle for 154 kilometers in all, eventually stopping the later model Camaro with the use of a spike strip, laid down on Ganaraska Road.
The man tried to run through the bush, but was tracked and later arrested.
The 47-year-old man from Oshawa, whose name is not being released, has been charged with Criminal Harassment; Possession of Cocaine; Possess Heroin for the Purpose of Trafficking; Possess Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking; Possess MDMA for the Purpose of Trafficking; Race a Motor Vehicle; Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Driving While under Suspension.
Police say they aren't releasing his name because of the domestic nature of the incident that kicked the chase off.
