Councillors on the economic development committee have voted in favour of continuing to fund the Pride parade this summer, even though organizers have been criticized for their stance on police participation.
Pride Toronto has asked officers who want to march in the parade this summer to not wear their uniforms. Organizers say they are not banning police from participating, they are placing "select conditions" on their involvement.
The decision was made after a protest at last year's parade held by Black Lives Matter.
At least one councillor wants the city to pull its funding over the decision to exclude police from officially participating this year.
John Campbell plans to move a motion to cancel the $260,000 in funding when the item goes to full council for approval, later this month.
Mayor John Tory released a statement ahead of the committee vote, saying he supports maintaining full funding while Pride organizers continue discussions with the Toronto police chief.

Pride executive director Olivia Nuamah says they will spend the next year trying to figure out how officers can participate next year.
"We absolutely hope to see their participation," Nuamah says. "But it can't happen before an ongoing dialogue with our community."
Council will vote on Pride funding at the May 24 meeting.
