A preliminary design has been revealed for a major transit hub being proposed for Pearson airport.
The Greater Toronto Airport Authority says it is taking the next step in its proposal for what would be like Union Station in the west end.
The hub would connect the airport to key transit lines like the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, Finch LRT, Mississauga transit and a proposed high-speed rail line to the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
The GTAA says research found there are more than 1 million car trips a day to the airport and that employment area, more than the number headed to and from downtown.
It says the area around Pearson is the second largest employment zone in Canada after downtown Toronto, with more than 300,000 workers.

The mayors of Misssisauga, Brampton and Toronto are all voicing their support for the plan.
Toronto mayor John Tory says he has spoken to the head of the airport authority and he is excited about moving forward with the proposed hub.
"The idea in principle had my complete support," he says.
The GTAA says it would pay for putting up the building itself. But what is still unknown is how much it would cost to get all the transit lines to the hub, and who would pay for that.
"The devil becomes in the details," Tory says.
Tory says the hub would have to be established by the province, the airport authority, and the various municipalities in the area.
