A dozen home owners have received some good news from the TTC - their homes will not have to be expropriated for the construction of the future Scarborough subway extension.
The TTC was considering expropriating homes near McCowan and Ellesmere to accomodate a construction site, but after further review by engineers, they have decided they will not need to buy the properties.
There will be a construction site located nearby, in a parking lot of the Scarborough Town Centre.
TTC spokesperson Brad Ross says the project could still impact residents through noise and vibration, both during construction and possibly the operation of the subway as well, depending on where the tunnel will be located.
Council has yet to finalize the route or alignment of the tunnel, which will run from Kennedy Station to the Scarborough Town Centre. The TTC can't rule out that other properties might still need to be expropriated between the two stations, depending on what council decides in the new year.
