There was a frightening moment for a team of Toronto firefighter's this morning as they had to pull out one of their own from a burning home, unconscious.
A three-alarm blaze broke out in what neighbours describe as a rooming house at Dufferin St and Alma Ave, north of a Queen St.
Two residents were helped out before fire crews arrived. They were treated for minor smoke inhalation.
It was when the first crew of firefighters got there that the situation became more dangerous.
Interim fire chief Matt Pegg says they were faced with a high heat situation and one of the firefighters was overcome by the temperature.
He was pulled out of a second-floor window onto a ladder. He later regained consciousness and was taken to hospital in serious but not life threatening condition.
The fire marshal's office has been called in to investigate.
So far there is no word on cause or the extent of damage. Officials will also investigate whether this was indeed a rooming house and whether it was up to code.
