Hillary Clinton told supporters in New York City that the decision voters made was "painful, and it will be for a long time," but she added that they owe U.S. president-elect Donald Trump "an open mind."
She gave her concession speech early Wednesday afternoon, apologizing that her team did not win the election.
"This loss hurts," she told supporters. "But please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it."
She said they owe Trump a chance to lead.
Clinton also had a message to women, saying that nothing has made her prouder "than to be your champion."
