Whoever they are, they are persona non grata among legions of Blue Jays fans. And Toronto Police have a message for them: turn yourself in, we have photos.
Toronto Police and security staff at the Rogers Centre are teaming up to find the person who lobbed a beer at an Orioles outfielder during Tuesday's wildcard game.
"This is not an action that can be taken lightly," police const. Victor Kwong told NEWSTALK 1010 Wednesday.
By the time ballpark security arrived in the section the can is though to have come from the person who launched it had taken off. Kwong would not elaborate but says the beer can toss was not the only the "unaccepted behaviour" in that section.
Speaking on NEWSTALK 1010's Moore in the Morning, Toronto mayor John Tory called anyone who would throw a can from the stands a "loonball".
"It's one in 50,000 and everybody else had a good time and hopefully people know who that was and have singled them out for special attention.
Tech analyst Carmi Levy believes the culprit can easily be found if police and security are willing to devote the people power to the effort.
He explains to NEWSTALK 1010's Jerry Agar investigators will have a myriad of tools their disposal, including camera angles you may not see on television.
"You can zoom in, you can count seats, you can tell pretty much which seat that beer can was thrown from."
Levy stresses that getting to that point is not a fast and simple process, though some internet sleuths are convinced they have already cracked the case.
NEWSTALK 1010's Jim Richards so badly wants to see the culprit caught he is putting up a reward.
Once investigators zero in on the seat they think the beer came from, Levy says Rogers Centre staff would be able to draw on ticket sale information, pull up a credit card, a phone number and an address to point police to. The trail does not necessarily go cold if the ticket was picked up from a scalper either. Levy explains police could draw on video from outside the Rogers Centre too.
The way Levy sees it, solving the case could come down to resources.
"Do they have the manpower to actually accomplish this? I'd like to think that they do. We're going to find out over the next few days."
Hey Beer Throwing Guy. If I found you this easily, the police already know who you are. #BlueJays #Orioles #MLBPlayoffs pic.twitter.com/OP3lZWqhlh
