Laying in a hospital bed, wearing a neck brace, 21-year-old Navindra Sookramsingh was rolled in front of TV cameras at Peel Police Press conference.
The young man was soft spoken and teary-eyed as he described his injuries.
"I can't walk. I barely survived. I don't know if I will be able to walk again and I can't move my hands."
It's something we have never seen before. Peel Police say they decided to bring Sookramsingh out to speak because, "it's important that the community recognize who we're dealing with. We're dealing with human beings."
Sookramsingh was struck early in the morning on March 17th at Clark Boulevard and West Drive in Brampton. He says he'd had a few drinks so he decided to do the responsible thing and walk home rather than drive.
Police say during that walk, he fell down in a roadway. They say he was in the process of getting up when he was hit by a small, beige vehicle and thrown more than 20 metres.
Officers are calling for the driver of the car, a small compact, to come forward.
