One person is dead after a house exploded in Kitchener's Forest Heights neighbourhood.
Emergency responders were called to Sprucedale Crescent just after 8:00 am on August 22. A woman was killed in the blast and Ornge Air Ambulance said a man has been taken to Hamilton General Hospital with critical injuries.
Kitchener Fire Department is reporting that two adjacent houses have caught fire.
It was initially reported that 10 people were inside the house at the time, however Waterloo Regional Police have indicated that is incorrect. Police say the area is a crime scene and they are treating the explosion as suspicious.
Residents near the blast site are being asked to stay inside due to the heavy smoke. Gas, water and power in the area have been shut off and will be unavailable to the immediate area for “lengthy amount of time.”
This is a developing story, more to come.
