The case of the man accused of stabbing his mother to death in Toronto's underground PATH system has been put over until next month.
During a brief appearance Tuesday, Duncan Sinclair turned all the way around in the prisoner's box inside at Old City Hall to scan the room. His brow was furrowed until he recognized someone. Sinclair's face softened, his lips stretched into a smile and gave a little wave. He turned back several more times to acknowledge two young women in the back row of the court room.
Sinclair is charged with first-degree in the death of Rae Cara Carrington.
Carrington was stabbed just after 7 p.m. April 10 while working in the food court below Commerce Court at King St W and Bay St.
"I heard the female clerk at the counter screaming, screaming her head off hysterically," a woman who had been watching TV in the food court told NEWSTALK 1010's sister station CP24. "It was eerie the way she was screaming just like spine-tingling, blood-curdling."
A male suspect took off running while the woman slumped to the floor. Emergency responders performed CPR on the woman but she was pronounced dead at the scene
Sinclair was arrested by Southern Georgian Bay OPP a few days later.
Outside the courthouse Tuesday, Sinclair's lawyer Joelle Klein said her client is doing well in custody but would not elaborate. She would not share if he's receiving any kind of mental health support.
