When you're driving along the highway, the last thing you expect is a pedestrian stepping into your path.
But it happened to Wayne Edward on the 427 over the weekend and it didn't end well for him.
He was northbound in the collector lanes near Burnhamthorpe.
In dashcam video, you can see the cars to the left suddenly slow then you see the pedestrian pop out, waving his arms.
"I didn't know why he was there," Edward tells CTV News Toronto. "The vehicles that were on my left were blocking my view."
Edward managed to stop in time but the car behind him did not. He was rear ended.
The pedestrian's reaction though, is what's shocking to veteran OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
"He's indignant, thinking that he's in the right. Pedestrians are not allowed on provincial highways like this," Schmidt says.
It appears the pedestrian's vehicle was involved in an earlier collision and that he was walking to the other side of the highway were two other cars were stopped.
Schmidt says, "he is lucky he's alive."
