It was almost four years ago today, when Marko Muzzo was driving drunk, and crashed his SUV, killing three kids and their grandfather in York Region.
But that hasn't seemed to have shaken drivers in that region, with more than 42 hundred alleged impaired drivers being taken off the roads, and almost 13 hundred charges being laid, since the start of this year.
And none may be more shocking than the incident that happened on Wednesday.
Police say a 38-year-old Vaughan man pulled up to his kids' school at around 5 o'clock. When teachers suspected he was inder the influence, they wouldn't allow his children to
get into the vehicle.
Following a verbal altercation, the man took off in his truck, and was arrested a short time later.
Back at the station, officers say he failed the breath test, blowing more than twice the legal limit.
"I am truly at a loss to understand how drivers continue to make the stupid and dangerous decision to drive while impaired, either by alcohol or drugs," said Chief Eric Jolliffe in a release.
"Our officers see this every single day. These selfish choices put our entire community at risk, including young children, as we have seen in this case. Despite the fact our message does not seem to be getting through, York Regional Police is not giving up. We will continue to fight this fight and we appreciate the vigilance of the community in alerting us to suspected impaired drivers. If you see a suspected impaired driver, at any time of the day or night, call 9-1-1 immediately. If found to be impaired, these drivers will be removed from our roads and prosecuted to the full extent of the law."
