Ronjot Singh Dhami was one of three people arrested in the violent attack on an autistic man in the bus terminal at the Square One shopping centre in March.
What made the attack even more disturbing, is that Peel Regional Police had indicated, it was unprovoked.
Surveilance video, later released by police show the 29-year-old victim, sitting and lacing up his roller blades.
Three men approach, and out of nowhere, start kicking and punching the man, before taking off.
Dhami was identified by police as one of the men in the video and was soon arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
At his sentencing hearing in Brampton on Wednesday, he apologised to the family of the victim, admitting he knew it "probably won't be accepted."
The judge then sentenced him to 12-months in prison, minus time served. Since the 25-year-old has already spent 247 days in custody, which gives him credit for 372 days, he was eligible to walk out of the courthouse.

He's also been ordered to serve two years probation, and pay a $100 fine.
Dhami is not allowed near the victim, the Square One shopping mall, or the bus station.
Originally from BC, he came to Ontario for work as a truck driver, and the judge stated that while his time in this province is off to a rocky start, "the prospects of rehabilitation are good."
Two other people, Parmvir Singh Chahil and Jaspaul Uppal who are both 21-years-old have also been charged, but it's unclear when they will be next in court.
