Ontario New Democrats are turning to the cost of prescription drugs to try to get your vote in next year's election.
NDP leader Andrea Horwath is promising provincial pharmacare if her party is elected as the next government.
The plan would cover 125 essential drugs for things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, diabetes and birth control.
The NDP claim it would cost $475-million a year, and save the private sector up to $1.9-billion.
Horwath says she expects the economy to grow by 2020, when the plan would be implemented, and she believes the extra revenue would cover the cost of the plan. If not, she says her party would shift the money from other programs outside the health sector. The third option would be to find a new source of revenue, although Horwath says she would want to avoid any tax.
Health minister Eric Hoskins responded to the NDP announcement saying he has been advocating for a federal pharmacare plan for three years, something Horwath called "talk."
