Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives want to restore rules for political advertising that likely would have blocked the radio ads you’ve been hearing pumping up a government plan to cut hydro rates.
NEWSTALK 1010 was first to tell you about deputy PC leader Sylvia Jones' intent to unveil a private member’s bill Wednesday. The bill would if passed, again allow Ontario’s Auditor General to veto ads designed to elicit a positive impression of government or a negative impression of critics.

The Liberals stripped the auditor of the ability with a 2015 legislative change. If there isn’t sufficient support in the house for Jones’ bill, the PC party would make the change if it forms government after the next election.
The controversial ads running now say people will pay 25% less on their hydro bills this summer and that for the next four years, rate hikes will be held to the rate of inflation.
