If you're heading to the U.S. through Pearson Airport this summer, officials are promising you will have a more pleasant experience through security.
The airport has installed new screening lines for U.S.-bound flights.
The new technology has only been fully operational for a week, but officials expect the security screening process to be significantly sped up.
The airport used to be able to screen 160 passengers to the U.S. per hour on an optimal day. Mathieu Larocque with CATSA says they should now be able to get 200 or more passengers through in that same time period.
When you approach the X-ray machines, there are four spots per line for travellers to put down their bags and shoes. It's like having four cash registers per line at the grocery store. An unprepared traveller will not slow down the the next three people in line.
Once the bags go through the X-ray machine, the ones that are rejected are sent down a different conveyor belt to be searched. Once again, travellers who are fine to go through are not slowed down.
