Some scary moments for pedestrians walking along Massey Square in East York's Crescent Town neighbourhood Saturday morning.
Just before 6:30 a.m., the concrete from a pedestrian bridge leading from one of the apartment buildings to Crescent Town Elementary School began to crumble.
While no one was injured, a passerby was about to cross underneath the structure when it began to fall apart.
The bridge is still standing, but there is a gaping hole in the middle. Area residents say if this had happened on a weekday, the results could have been absolutely tragic.
"I was thinking [...] maybe I could be the victim," concerned parent Ruhul told CP24. "I was walking with my daughter. If I think that way, this is definitely very disappointing."
The bridge between @tdsb Crescent Town school & the Massey Square apartments it serves has partially collapsed. Mercifully it happened on a weekend morning and there were no kids or parents on or under it & no injuries. It could have been catastrophic. Please be careful, everyone pic.twitter.com/7mesouBnuv

Toronto Fire Platoon Chief Stefan Cloer says Municipal Licensing and Standards officials from the city arrived at the scene late Saturday morning to figure out who will take over the repair and demolition of the bridge.
"We're very fortunate that it happened at 6:20 in the morning and no one's been hurt," he told CP24.
An area resident has said the bridge is jointly owned by Pinedale Properties and the Toronto District School Board, but this has not been confirmed.
The same resident said the TDSB did repairs on its side of the bridge last year.
There is no timeline yet for repair. The bridge stands about 15 feet off the ground.
