After weeks of rumours, conjecture and unnamed sources, Toronto police have announced that they believe Barry and Honey Sherman were murdered.
In an update at police headquarters, Det. Sgt. Susan Gomes told reporters that they have sufficient evidence to prove the billionaire couple was targeted.
Gomes would not reveal what that evidence is.
The detective would not hint at any possible motives.
“We haven’t developed any suspects outside of understanding people are outstanding,” she said.
After six weeks, the Sherman home was cleared by police Friday morning and handed over to the family’s private investigators.
Police have so far interviewed more than 125 witnesses, seized 150 items for forensic analysis, and obtained 20 warrants.
“Some executions have been challenging given the litigious nature of Barry Sherman’s businesses. In particular, the search and seizure of electronics and Barry Sherman’s work space at Apotex.”
Gomes re-iterated that there were no signs of forced entry in the home. When asked if that leads them to believe the suspect or suspects were known to the Shermans, someone with a key, or someone with access to a lock box, she said, “It’s possible.”
There was a lock box with a key inside because the house was for sale. Gomes says the number of people with access to it was “significant” and police are “looking forward” to interviewing everyone on the list.
